  • A delicate slow growing variety suitable for Christmas trees or ornamental gardens.

  • Natural, attractive symmetrical shape.

  • For more information on the Fraser fir check out the Tree library.

For Growers.

  • Plant out directly in the field in cool conditions or pot up and grow on for 1-2 years to get your trees ahead of the weeds and give them time to adapt to your climate.

  • Avoid fertilising in the first few months after planting as this can burn seedlings.

  • Fraser fir are slow growers and highly sensitive to heat and drought. This variety is a very delicate, slow growing, tree which grows into a beautiful landscape feature, or shapely premium Christmas tree.

  • Plant on gentle slopes or hilly terrain with good drainage, they do not like wet feet. Prefer acidic soils (pH 5.0 - 6.5).

  • Frost tolerant down to -30 degrees celsius or more, and requires a cold winter with regular frost or snow.

  • Water young seedlings regularly until established.

  • Keep weeds down around the tree for at least the first two years until established.

  • Expect a Christmas tree crop in 8-10 years from planting out in the field.

How are the seedlings grown and shipped?

  • Radiata pine seedlings are ready for dispatch the first winter after sowing. Fir and Spruce seedlings are slower growing and require four or more seasons.

  •  Upon dispatch, seedlings are removed from trays and are packed into waxed boxes.

  • We recommend seedlings are planted directly out field or potted up as soon as possible upon arrival.  A 140mm pot is the ideal size to hold seedlings for an additional year.
