A renowned and distinctive tree from the western United States, known to grow to great heights and diameters, and live for hundreds to thousands of years. These trees grow best on well drained soils with regular rainfall or fog. Very fire tolerant with fireproof bark when mature. They are also somewhat drought tolerant.
