European Larch (Larix decidua) - Potted trees
The European larch is found in the Alps and across cooler parts of northern Europe. They grow into a gnarly and very cold hardy tree with delicate green foliage erupting from the stems every year in early Spring and fading to rich hues of yellow, orange and red in the Autumn before being shed. One of just a few deciduous conifers, this tree makes a great garden specimen. This tree will thrive in cooler parts of Australia, ideally sheltered from temperatures above 40’C. It does well in shady or partly shady spots and with plenty of water through the Summer to feed its shallow and spreading root system, however does not tolerate poorly drained soil - rather plant the larch on a rocky or sandy spot for best results. Moderately fast growing in the right conditions, this long-lived tree can reach heights of 45m, but in Australia, it.more commonly develops a small and narrow frame and heights of 15-25m.
