Mediterranean cypress / Pencil Pine (Cupressus sempervirens)
A narrow conical tree native to the Mediterranean, also known as the Italian Cypress. This tree grows into a tall and stately landscape feature - reaching up to 4m tall and 60cm wide in 10 years. This fast-growing conifer is very drought and heat tolerant, also tolerating frosts. Plant on a well-drained site with plenty of sunlight for best results.
The Mediterranean cypress is often used to line driveways and create screens or windbreaks for gardens. not requiring pruning to keep its columnar shape., though it can easily be shaped to keep the desired size. This hardy plant is adaptable to most Southern and Eastern Australian climates and grows well in drier inland areas as well. It thrives on slightly acidic to neutral pH soils with good drainage.
