Autumn BBQ and Transplanting Day
What was originally planned as a relaxed BBQ and site open day soon became a day of tree planting when everyone got involved. This welcome team of reinforcements transplanted over 1400 seedlings in just four hours, where I had expected a full long-weekend of potting and planting for two people. The BBQ Lunch cooked by Ennio on site, was a feast! With roasted chestnuts to boot. Thanks to everyone there for their efforts and I can report that one week on, the trees are all looking great.

Douglas fir seedlings ready to plant
The first 2017 Douglas fir seedlings are ready to go, after rocketing to 20cm+ from sowing in just 4 months! 'So what?' you might say? That may sound slow, but these trees are notoriously slow starters, tending to just sit and do frustratingly little for up to a year before deciding to get a move on. This is a great result and means the first round of planting can begin in the next couple of weeks!
