Huon Pine

Lagarostrobos franklinii

The Huon pine, a Tasmanian native has dark green drooping branches. It is popular as an ornamental in cooler climates. Known for its scent and wood properties, the Huon is a unique conifer to add to your collection. It is also amongst the oldest known species in the world.

Origin and climate

The Huon Pine originates in Tasmania, Growing in a cool wet climate.

Growth

Height: Very slow growing, reaching between 10 to 20 metres.

Ideal Growth Conditions: neutral to acidic soil pH. Moist but well-drained soils, full sunlight or partial shade.

Attributes: Deep green needles. Female cones are small & elongated.

Tending and care

Slow growing, prefers cooler climates, sandy loam - loam clay soil, tolerates light frosts.

Uses: Ornamental for gardens, natural forest, Timber.
