Origin and climate

The Balsam fir is native to the majority of central and eastern Canada (depicted in the map) as well as part of northeastern U.S. This variety naturally grows in cool climates with heavy snowfall in winter. It is well adapted to swampy and wet conditions. It is also very shade tolerant, growing well with just a few hours of direct sunlight per day.

 

Growth

Height: matures around 15 - 25 meters

Ideal Growth Conditions: Full/ partial sun, acidic sandy/ loam well drained soil,

Attributes: medium to tall tree, conical crown, distinct small glossy blue -green needles. small ovate cones grey-brown in colour.
